File permission request.

I am trying to open a document in my A drive. Although the document is shown as there and using 'search' verifies this, when I click to open it I get a message that it cannot be opened and am told to *check file permission for this drive or document.
How do I do this?

First and foremost, I strongly advise against opening documents directly off a floppy disk. This is one of the leading causes of document corruption.

You should first copy the document to your local drive and try opening it from there.

If you are unable to open the copy using File/Open (rather than double-clicking the file) then it could be the document is corrupt and you've just learned why I strongly advise against working directly off a floppy disk. :-(

Thank you, Beth, from now on I will take your advice.
I have a lot of files on my disc relating to cat (four legged) shows which I need to keep and as I am not very computer literate, when I was told to keep copies I copied them onto floppies last year. Now I need them again. Since last year I have had my computer up-graded by a comp. expert and have since added Windows XP. All the problems I seem to get drive my wife mad!!

Thanks, again

Ken
