File "Properties" is missing from my menu

When I go to the "File" menu, document properties is now missing from the
list, even when I expand the menu. So it is harder to access word count and
other basic information.

This should bring your Properties command back in position:

Select Tools > Customize > Commands tab.
In the Customize dialog box, make sure that the "Save in" field shows
"Normal.dot" (bottom of dialog box). In the Categories list, select "All
Commands". In the Commands list, locate "FileProperties" and position the
pointer on it, press and hold the left mouse button while you drag the
command - first drag it to File in the Menu Bar (this will display the File
menu), then drag it to its original position below to "Send To". Release the
mouse button when the bold insertion marker is in the correct position.
Click Close in the Customize dialog box.

Now you should have the Properties command back in position and you must
save Normal.dot to keep it there: Press and hold the Shift key while you
select File > Save All. If a dialog box opens, asking whether to save changes
to Normal.dot, click Yes.

Note that you must always be careful when you operate while the Customize
dialog box is open - otherwise you may by mistake remove or rearrange menus
or commands.
