File Recovery

Help, I need an answer quickly. I have two documents that have been
recovered from a bad hard drive. When I open them up in Word I get a
mish-mash of coding, but I cannot read them. Is there someone who can help
me get these documents recovered properly.

In the Open dialog, click the down arrow next to the Open button and
choose "Open and Repair". That might work, but probably won't.

The next thing to try is to set the Files of Type dropdown to "Recover
Text from Any File". The result will have no formatting, but you may
get the text, which you can save to another file name.

If, like kimmerdog, you got the document from a bad hard drive, it's
possible that the file is so badly damaged that it isn't recoverable at all.
That's when you find out the value of regular backups. No backup? Maybe you
emailed a copy to someone who could return it, or maybe you have a printed
copy that could be scanned and OCR'ed to make a new Word file.
