WORD 2003 -- WHEN TRYING TO SAVE AS A NEW FILENAME, THE ERROR MESSAGE POPS UP
STATING THAT IT IS UNABLE FOR A NUMBER OF REASONS. IT SHOWS THE PATH AND
FILENAME BUT ADDS AN APOSTROPHE TO THE END OF THE STRING THAT IS NOT IN THE
FILENAME. WHAT'S UP WITH THAT?

This sounds like a new bug caused by one of last week's Hotfix KB885250.
This is the first report involving Word 2003. In order to assist diagnosis
with this, would you let us know:

Are you using a peer-to-peer network?
What server are you using?
Does going to the Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs and uninstalling
KB885250 resolve the problem*

*Note that it may ne necessary to check the Show Updates box at the top of
the Add or Remove Programs dialog to see the installed Hot Fixes.

Terry,

I uninstalled the Hotfix KB885250 as you noted and the problem appears to
have been resolved. We share a central file computer although all Word
applications reside on each individuals' own computer.

My next question is now; "How do I disable the Hotfix from my 'Automatic
Updates' window?" My computer now detects the absence of this fix and is
asking for it to be reinstalled as if it is brand new! Since my computer
'asks' me when and what updates to download, "Will my computer contiually ask
to download this Hotfix?"

Let me know!

Best Regards,

Todd Farrand

Would you call Microsoft PSS and report this bug with the Hotfix. Hotfix
calls are free of charge. The fault will be correctly logged and hopefully
fixed soon.

Terry,

I will call and let them know but how do I disengage the Hotfix from being
in my 'Downloads' ?

Thanks

Log in to the Windows Update site and use the Check for Updates. When it
lists the KB885250 hotfix, clear the Add checkbox and then check the Hide
this Update checkbox.
