File Save Formats

I am asked to produce a document in any one of the following formats:
Accepted File Formats

Adobe Acrobat Document (*.pdf)
Adobe Illustrator Artwork 8.01- (*.ai)
Adobe Photoshop Image (*.psd)
Bitmap Image (*.bmp)
GIF Image (*.gif)
JPEG Image (*.jpg,*.jpeg)
PCX Image Document (*.pcx)
PICT Image (*.pic)
PNG Image (*.png)
PostScript File (*.ps)
Scalable Vector Graphics (*.svg,*.svgz)
TARGA Image (*.tga,*.vda)
Windows Enhanced Metafile (*.emf)
Windows Metafile (*.wmf)


MS Word installations I have used elsewhere allow the user to save off a
file in several of these formats, and others, but my MS Word here does not!
It only allows:


MS Word document .doc
MS Word template .dot
XML Document .xml
Web page .mht, .htm, etc.
Rich Text Format document .rtf
MS Works format .wps
An oriental option .hwp


What do I have to do please to save a file in any of the above formats???

Thanks JoAnn. What about, for example, .png files or Windows metafiles.
Should Word not be able to produce these itself?

JoAnn Paules [MVP]

Word is a "word processing" program. All but one of the files you've listed
are "graphics" files. I have to ask why you would be using a word processor
to create a graphics file. If it's all you have and you prefer not to get a
proper graphics program, then you need to resort to third-party software.

I know it sounds rough but I am a big advocate of using the right tool for
the job. :)

To add to what JoAnn has said, I would be very surprised if you ever had a
version of Word that was able to SAVE to any of these formats or even open
them; those are the formats you would see listed when you use Insert |
Picture | From File. If you don't want to get Acrobat or a clone to create a
PDF, you might want to investigate SnagIt, a screen capture program that
includes a printer driver that allows you to print to a file in any of a
number of graphics formats. At $39.95 for a single-user license, SnagIt is a
very inexpensive program (especially given its capabilities), and there is a
free trial download available; see www.techsmith.com.

My husband just downloaded the trial to use at work and he loves it! He
showed his coworkers and they're considering getting a multi-seat license.
