File search and thumbnail views

When searching for a file in Publisher or Word, in 'thumbnail" view, the
computer soon locks up and the Windows Task Manager states the program is not
responding. The computer seems to do fine when in any other file view (such
as list, details, icons, etc). Any suggestions?
