Hi, thanks in advance if someone can shed some light on this for me...
I'm simply trying to copy records from Excel to Access. Just to make sure I
have everything formatted right in the Excel sheet, I made a 'structure only'
copy of the table I want to copy to, and tried to paste the records there. I
have an auto-number primary key, two required fields, and a bunch of other
fields. I'm copying the data from Excel, selecting all the fields except the
autonumber, then trying to paste.
Using 'ctrl-c' and 'ctrl-v'...the first batch went fine (just over 14,000
records), but the second batch (about the same number of records) triggered
the 'file sharing lock count exceeded' error. Just to be sure I deleted the
copy, and did it all from scratch again. I even closed the database (with
'compact on close') after the first paste, and closed the Excel table to
clear out the clipboard.
I've read http://support.microsoft.com/?id=815281, But I'm not in a
multi-user database, and the first 14,000 record batch went fine, so why a
problem with the second batch?
And... using paste-append didn't work at all... it tells me that something
is in the wrong format or exceeds the field size. But copying using the
'ctrl-c' and 'ctrl-v' works fine, so I know that all the data is formatted
correctly. I get the impression that something is going on either with the
auto-number (primary key), or one of the required fields.
I'm using Access 2007. I don't remember having this sort of problem copying
large batches of records in Access2003! (Or maybe I did, and I've just
supressed the memory?)
Thanks,
Jey
