file size growth after hiding rows or columns

Why does my excel file (about 1 screen wide & high) go
from about 300kb to over 2mb when I simply hide all
useless rows (75 to 65000) and hide all useless columns
(N to IV)??

Is there a work around?

Thanks,
Duce

Presumably because hiding is a type of formatting, so it makes all of these
cells 'used' and has to store information about them.

The work around is simply not to hide them! If there's nothing in them, it
doesn't achieve anything useful to hide them.
