File size in Word

How can I keep the file size of a Word document fairly small while using
tables and form fields? Just adding a table turned a blank document from 19
kb to 39 kb, and by the time I add all the rows/columns and form fields that
I need, a one page template is a few hundred kb. Is there any way to keep
this smaller?

Without knowing the contents and a few other details, it's
not possible to say, for me at least. WYSIWYG, in general,
although there are some things you do but won't make
drastic file size changes.

Just adding some empty tables, text form fields and radio buttons is making
my files quite large.

Not sure why you need small files, but; have you tried Excel
to see if it produced a filesize more to your liking? Or any
spreadsheet, really, indlucing Works. Is this something
that, instead of using tables, you could just line up the
items with tab stops? Hard to suggest much with so little
data.
