File size increasing

Bertie

My designer has created a Word document for me (on a Mac) which is about
124Kb and contains some graphics. But when I make any changes and resave them
in Word 2003 (on a PC) the file size increases to 9Mb.

Any ideas how to stop this happening?

Pls explain in lay terms as I am not terribly computer literate!!

Thanks

Hi Bertie,
Do you use track changes? This function enables you to see new text
you have inserted and old text you have deleted. You will se th
inserted/deletd text in different colour. This function causes the
document to become heavy as usually causes traubles.

Second qustion, which kind of graphic do you have in your document?
Are there any insereted charts from excel and other office
application?

Feel free to post back if nothing above give you any sence.

Hi Bertie,

in addition to little creature's comments: my guess is that the problem is
caused by the graphics. When you insert graphics in a Mac-native format,
such as PICT, into a Word document, PC Word will automatically create a copy
of that image in a Windows-native format and use that one instead. However,
it will leave the original picture file intact, so you end up with two
pictures instead of one. The same thing is also true when using
Windows-native graphics and then opening that document in Mac Word. See if
using universal, platform-independent file formats, such as PNG or JPG,
gives you better results.

Thanks for your help

We tried to change the file type which definitely worked when we used a PNG.
But it was still almost 3Mb. So in the end we recreated the document on a PC!
