File size

How largecan a Visio file be before it becomes unuseable? I am using 2003 at
work and I am halfway through doing a Visio diagram with many pages. It will
have over 100 pages and probably be around 20MB when it is finished. Will
anyone be able to use it?

One of my customers has a diagram of 134 pages, a bit slow at times
but usable.

One way to test this. Download the utilities in my sig below, there is
a duplicate page facility. Create a typical page and duplicate as
required. Hmm, maybe I'll add a 'Duplicate n times'.

There you are, done in V1.3.7

Create a page with all your typical shapes, use the new Duplicate Page
and select 100, 200 or whatever you like. Now you can see how usable
the pages will be.

Make sure you do this with Visio 2003 since there were big scalability
problems with page count in Visio 2002. Generally, the limitation on Visio
becomes the in-memory footprint. I would recommend loading the document and
checking its size in Task Manager. Do this from a CD-RW or USB drive
though. When opening multi-page files from the network or hard disk, Visio
only loads the visible page. The rest are demand loaded.
