Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) My Word file does not open. Message says it is too big at 32MB. How can I access it and increase acceptable file size?

The error message is wrong. What it means is "That file can't be opened
because it is corrupt".

The file size limit is well above 32 MB, the error message is an old one
that dates back to before the operating system could handle large files.
The actual limit is about 2 gigabytes.

You have several choices:
* You can restore from your backup
* You can try to find a copy of Windows Word (which might be able to open
the document or it might not...)
* You can use File>Open within Word and set the "Show:" box to "Recover
text from any file."

That last option will only get the text back: you will lose all formatting
and graphics.
