File SKU11.CAB not found

When I try to open an old Word file created in Windows 98, it tries to
convert it to the current version of Word (Office 2003 Pro) but an error
message "File SKU11.CAB not found" comes up. All formatting in the document
is lost. Is there any way of retreaving the original formatting?

The sku011.cab file should be on your Office 2003 CD. Insert the
CD and browse to it when prompted for the file.

Typically this error occurs when your local installation source
(MSOCache) is missing.

Even though the description of the error you are encountering isn't
the same, this article should help you rectify the error:

Although you can use the temporary workaround by inserting your Office
CD, you should permanently correct the problem by downloading the LIS
Tool as noted in the article.

Regarding the file you opened, did you save it or close it without
saving? I suspect Word was attempting to install a converter and when
it could not be found the file opened in "Recover text from any file"
format so the formatting may not be lost, provided you didn't save the
file in this state, and will open as you expect once the correct
converter is installed.
