File Store

I'm trying to determine where exactly files added to Groove are stored. I've
seen smatterings of info around the internet but I can't seem to get a
definitive answer.

With the Groove 2007 trial, where are files that you add to the Files Tool
actually stored? The claim is that they are on the local machine. If so, are
these the files that I see in the
...Application
Data\Microsoft\OFFICE\Groove\System\Groovebinaryfilestore.xss_ directory?

Hello Ralph,

You can not access directly a file stored in a Groove workspace because
everything is encrypted on disk for security reason. The only way to
access it is through Groove.

There is another type of groove workspace called "File sharing
workspace" that directly maps to a windows directory (so you see and can
edit shared files directly from Windows explorer). It is a limited to
file sharing (you can not add other tools in this workspace) and I am
not sure you will be able to connect it to sharepoint...

Regards,
Marco.

Yea, I'm really just trying to get a definitive answer that the files are
stored on the local machine vs. stored out on the internet somewhere, as some
rumors have suggested. I understand that I won't be able to access the files
due to encrytion, which is a good thing!

My understanding is the files are stored locally and that the relay servers
only store the delters of changes.
I point to remember is if you create a workspace and invite people to it
they will have access to all information in that workspace and the files you
might have in the files tool. When you uninvite them the entire workspace
and files are removed.

when you setup a shared folder and invite people to the shared folder. All
is fine, but when you uninvite them to the Groove Share Folder the Groove
Share Folder disappears from the launch bar but the fold it self and its
content stays on the local machine.

So if you share documents but at some stage in the future want to retreive
the contents and remove access to those files then I would not recommend the
Groove Shared folder.
