File "type" format

I am having a problem saving images for my Frontpage website. Question: I
have just had a new computer custom built for me - which is
running windows xp professional. However, unlike my old computer when I try
to save my images on my computer's harddrive, when I do a "save as" of course
the dialog box pops up, then I type in the name of my file, then when I try
to save it as a jpeg or GIF, this function is not available. Th only "file
type" that is available is "Paintshop pro 9.0". Needless to say, Paintshop
pro is a program installed on this computer for my image editing needs,
however, the problem is: I do not want my images saved as a "paintshop pro
image". I need it saved as jpeg's or GIF's. Is there any "preferences" where
i can go to change the current "file format" defaults? I have been banging my
head my desk about this. I can't seem to find a way to correct this. Someone
please help!! Thanks to all in advance!

This is not a FP related issue, it is a problem with your image editing application.

What application are you using when you are trying to save your images? If it is PaintShop Pro, then
it sound like you did not do a complete install.

It happens when I try saving images in general. Like trying to save on image
on the internet etc. After looking at it again, it looks like it may have
saved it as a GIF or JPEG, but the program used to view it on my machine
opens it in Paint shop pro, instead of Windows Picture & Fax Viewer (my
preference). When I ma looking to vioew the image I don't want it to launch
Paintshop pro. How do I fix the options so that it can default or save as:
Windows Picture & Fax Viewer?

There is not option in Windows to save as for Windows Picture & Fax Viewer.

It is the image application that you are using, that must save the image in whatever format you
want.

try the "save as..." option on the file menu, this should give you the optin
to save as a different format.

Or a "Save for the Web" or "Export" option might also do the job. I don't
have PSP so I'm guessing here.

you have to "associate" certain files to open with your preferred
application

so in Windows explorer, go to the folder with the images, right click your
jpeg (just choose any file) then choose the option "Open With..." and then
it goes to a dialogue and lists all the apps on your machine; choose the
picture/fax viewer application.

repeat for your gif images; then all gif and jpg should open in the
fax/picture viewer rather than PaintshopPro.
