File Upload - need solution

B

Bob

My website provider does not support the FP 2003, Form/Upload File component.
I have been fighting various CGI FIle Upload scripts without success. Is
there an easy and free alternative, maybe Java or something that can handle a
file upload component for my website?

Thanks,
Bob

Have you asked you host what they have installed or willing to install, as you will most likely need
to them to set permissions to allow files to be uploaded to their servers, no matter what you use.

Yes, my provider recommended using a CGI script, which I have a CGI enabled
folder (cgi-local) on my website that they put there, but most/all of the CGI
scripts require that you CHMOD the upload.cgi file to make it an
executable......I don't have UNIX command to perform this step from Windows.
I may try to do it from my other Linux machine.....but this all seems like a
lot of trouble for such a small applet.
I searched for 3rd party FrontPage Addins.....came up empty there too.

You can not set CHMOD from within FP, and the script would need to be uploaded via a 3rd Party FTP
application.

This something the must installed or run from the server using a server-side script. The only option
available for FP, is the file upload, which requires that your site be hosted on a Windows Server
and that the host allow you to use this feature of FP.

You will need a FTP client to upload and CHMOD Perl scripts and/or CGI
applications. Using CuteFTP, or SmartFTP makes this very easy. The
folder cgi-local should also be made into a subweb (both locally and
on the server) to protect your root web from the adverse effects of
FTP in a FrontPage extended web.

I have already uploaded the file to the proper destination through FileZilla
without problem, are you saying I can CHMOD from within an FTP program?
