file upload to subweb

Hi folks,

I created a form with upload capabilities and
successfully uploaded files to a FP web located on a
server with the current version of FP Extentions.

But, I want to upload to a subweb which points to a
folder on a different physical drive on the same server.
I (think) I have the url correct but when I attempt the
upload I get the following error message:

*********
Form Validation Error
Please correct the information you provided by following
these steps, then submit the information again:

'http://domainname.com/clientprojects/client04/' does not
refer to a page or folder in this web. It may be a page
or folder in a subweb, or it could be a badly formed URL.
**********

The error message suspects that I may be trying to upload
to "a page in a subweb" but it doesn't explain much more.

I'll appreciate any direction .. . .

Please note that this same web site worked on my client's
NT 4.0 server before he switched to Server 2002. I
remember having some difficulty getting the files to
upload to the second drive when we first created it, but
I was eventually successful. Unfortunately I don't
remember the solution.

Thanks,

Michael

Not possible as the extensions can only set permissions on a folder that is within the current web.
The subweb must be created within FP and be within the current web.

Thanks, Thomas, I understand.

But, the subweb is within the current web. The subweb
happens to be mapped to a directory on a different drive.
Am I missing something?

Thanks,

You can not create a FP subweb from a folder that is not physically within web that has the FP
extensions (i.e., a virtual directory), as the FP extensions do not see or work with virtual
directories.

Thank you once more, Thomas.

I fear that I might not have communicated properly.

I have a Sub Web that is mapped to a folder on a
different physical drive. It shows up as a sub web in
my "Folder List" view of Front Page. I have mapped this
web to a folder on a different physical drive using IIS
Manager. I am able to navigate to that folder from Front
Page and Explorer. Are you saying that, even though it
shows up as a sub web, that the folder may not have front
page extentions? If so, how do I apply the extentions to
a folder on a different physical drive?

Please remember that we had this configuration working
when my client was running NT 4.0. i.e. uploading files
to folders on a different drive. I remember the set up
being a little tricky and I'm probably forgetting one
step. The client expects us to make it work like before
and, unless I have a very good explaination of why it
won't work now and a palatable "work around", he's not
going to be happy :-(

I recognize your name from some invaluable help that
you've given me in the past and I'm hoping you'll help me
figure this one out also. Please let me know if you need
any more information or you'd like to take a look at my
configuration first hand (pcanywhere?).

Thanks for your attention,

Michael

When using the FP extensions you are not suppose to be able to do what you did under NT4, as the
extensions do not support access to virtual directories.

I don't recall which OS you have upgraded to, but Windows 2000 server handles permission totally
different from NT4, and Windows 2003 server comes with everything lock down (so things that worked
in the past, may no longer work), as well as later versions of the FP extensions, so these
upgrades/updates could have fixed the flaw that allowed you to do what you were not suppose to be
able to do.

As a solution, why not just create a subweb under the current space allotted to the current root
web?

Thank you once more, Thomas.

Your suggestion seems like the most logical thing to do
and I will check with my client. I think he has some
security issues but we might be able to work around that.

Regards,

Michael
