File, View missing

All,

Win 2000 pro
Office 2000

I have a user who has done somthing to his PC & cannot
rectify it. His problem was that he lost all his tool
bars & his File, Edit, View, Insert etc etc.
Now I have manage to retrieve his tool bars via shortcut
keys but unable to fix the second prob.

I have tried searching for his xlb file to rename but the
weird thing is - he dont have one, infact the PC does not
have one as I have tried searching for this.

Thanks in advance

I'm not an expert of this stuff; however, I'm sure you've already tried:
Right-Click on the area where the tool bar would be
Click on "Customize"
Then for the toolbars, click the "reset" button and to the same for the
"commands" tab.

That's all I can think of, again, I'm no expert so...

a bit drastic don't you think? They will loose all of
their personalised settings.

Thanks anyway

Maybe you didn't search through the hidden folders.

You can shell to DOS

(Windows start button|run
for winNT/win2k (winXP??): cmd
for win9*, type: command

Then:

dir c:\*.xlb /s /a

You may have to change the drive letter (depending on where you installed office
and the versions of excel/windows you're using).

The /s means to search all subfolders. The /a says to show all files--no matter
what the attribute is.

(Actually, you can use /ah for Hidden attributes, but /a picked up both hidden
and non-hidden for me (win98).)
