file won't open

After adding a call-out to several slides of a
presentation and saving it, I cannot access it. Although I
can view the top slide using the open option, it says that
the file isn't a powerpoint presentation.

I have renamed the file to ensure it carries .ppt, I even
added callouts to another presentation to ensure I would
have the same problem with it, and it does. Properties
shows the file is a powerpoint presentation.

What can I do without recreating it?

Wow. Callouts? I've not heard of that before, but it's sure interesting.
Which version of PPT? (Just curious here.)
