Filemaker Pro db not accessible in Word 2004 for Mac using wizard

My OS is Mac OS 10.3.9. Using the Filemaker Pro wizard, the names of
my Filemaker Pro 8 databases are grayed out & I cannot access them to
import/merge into Word. Is there a trick I don't know about? Thank you
for any explanation.

I believe FileMaker changed it's database format with version 7 and
since then, the files are not directly accessible in Office anymore :-\
