FileMaker Pro DB to Access 2000?

K

Kim

Is there a way to export a FileMaker Pro file (from Mac)
to Access 2000 (on PC)? It always imports into Access as
a single table and you can't do anything to it in Design
View.

I'm not an Access or FileMaker expert, so it just looks to
me like all I can do is maybe import the FileMaker file
into Excel, then cut and paste each column as a separate
Excel file. Then build a database in Access from scratch,
importing each Excel file as a separate table.

That sounds totally stupid, which is why I'm asking....Any
info would be appreciated.

Hi Kim,

My name is Amy Vargo. Thank you for using the Microsoft Access Newsgroups.

Microsoft Access cannot directly import a FileMaker Pro file. There are
certain file extensions that an Access database can import. Among those
are Text, Excel, and some ODBC file types. You should first convert the
file to a format that Access can import, then import this file.

For a list of file types that you can import, please see the article below.

Linking in

I hope this helps! If you have additional questions on this topic, please
respond back to this posting.

Thanks, Amy. I did export the data as a .txt file, then
imported it into Access. It was all "flat" (basically
like a gigantic spreadsheet) and I couldn't see what I
could do to import it in a useful way. Thanks again!

Hi Kim,

Having got the data into Access, you then have to re-create the
functionality using Access's own concepts and tools. Access has a Table
Analyzer that can help split the big flat table into related tables;
also, take a look at the Help topic "About designing a database".

The only problem I have with the Table Splitter is that it creates the
foreign keys as LookUp Fields. These should be removed and be displayed as
a plain textbox.
