files attempting conversion in error

Hi. For the last few days every file that I attempt to open is trying to
convert to Word...whether its an icon on my desktop or selected from the
Start Menu. The only thing I can access is the internet thru the IE icon on
my desktop. Is there anything I can do to fix this?
