files corrupted on save

Office xp with sp2, excel 2002 files are corrupted on save
and excel closes. Opening excel, file is recovered
however all the formatting is lost.

no. it does not happen much on the network. It happened
3 times in about a year. when it happens it is time
consuming to correct. thank you

I used to have a lot of trouble with saving Excel files to our network at
work. Whenever I would open the file, there would be a network hit and
Excel would lose it's way back home and refuse to save properly.........my
only defense was to save almost every row I entered, and back up the entire
file every day........now our network is much more stable and it almost
never happens...........backing up is a pain, but sometimes saves the
day..........

Since it is happening only on network and only sporadically, I would point at a
brief disconnection from the network being the problem. Save to HD first, then
to network as a workaround Check workstation for any malware which can add to
this problem
