Files disabled in Word X Open Dialog.

Strange problem.

On one machine, when I try to open a .doc file from inside Word, the
Open dialog shows all the files as being disabled.

I've run repair permissions on this drive.

No problem double-clicking the files from the Finder, launching Word,
and editing the file.
No problem saving the file once it is edited.
However, even a newly saved file cannot be opened using the File/Open
dialog. It shows as grayed out.
Any ideas?

Environment:
Word patched to version 10.1.5
OS X version: 10.3.3

When I look from Terminal, I see that the files have this user listed
with r/w access.
The group has r/w access (I believe that is what -rw-rw---- translates
to).

What is the Open File dialog's Enable dropdown set to?

Good catch.
Hadn't really been aware of that combo box.
The user had changed it to Templates.
Switching it to Word Docs and All Readable solved the problem.
(I feel foolish for missing that...)
Thanks
