Files open slowly (re-post)

After installing Office XP on my windows 2000 system,
when i click on file open, the file will take up to three
minutes to open. Also sometimes the system will hang and
I would need to reboot. Can anyone help me please.

Do you have Norton AntiVirus doing a macro check? That can really slow
down the startup of both Word and Excel.

No, I do not have Norton running. Office opens fine.
Once word or excel is up, trying to open a file is very
slow.

If your default file location is a network location it can
slow things down especially if there is heavy traffic on
the network. I would try changing the default file
location to something local and see if it helps.
