Files/Open

I have Word 2003.

When I open "Files/Open" it is supposed to show several of the most recent
files I have looked at. That feature has quit working, not only in Word, but
in Excel also. I have tried going to "Tools/Options" and resetting, but for
some reason neither Word or Excel will allow me to put a check in the box or
to specify the number of files to be shown. How can I correct this?

Thank You,
John W.

Close Word and Excel, and start regedit. Browse to the
"HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\
CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer\NoRecentDocsHistory" key. If
the key value is set to binary 01 00 00 00, then change the value
to binary 00 00 00 00.

Thanks. That corrected the problem.
