Files saved in OneNote

If I insert a file into one note and then modify it from a different location
(ie: documents folder) when I reopen one note and click on the file icon will
the modified file open or the previous version (unmodified)? I seem to have
lost a file that had been modified, saved, modified and reopened and it was
what seemed to be the older version of the file.

If you insert a file into OneNote (as opposed to a link to a file) then
modify the file somewhere else you're modifying a copy of the file - in
other words changes you make to that copy won't be reflected in the copy you
inserted into OneNote.

Now if you just make a link to a file in OneNote then the link would open
the original file out in the filesystem and all changes would be apparent.

I assume you've already searched your system for the missing file?

Ben is right.
Of course, if you do modify the file opened from OneNote, OneNote will
catch the operation and update the file in the .one file (and the
cache I presume).
Rarely, the handle don't work, this lead to not getting the file
updated. If you notice this behavior, you may try opening the modified
file from the user temporary folder.

My think is that OneNote is not so good managing files, and I think
that it is the only bad side of it.
1. It is too simple to delete a file: just select it (or open it),
then press any key in OneNote: files are considered just text and if
you select them and then type anything, they will disappear.
2. Watching for modifies to the files when opened in OneNote doesn't
work *always*. This is quite too bad.

You are correct that managing files is not a strong suit however Ben's reply
about adding a link was a great help. I am able to get to the file via the
link within the notebook. If i modify the file outside the notebook it open
the updated file the next time I open it within a notebook.
