Files slow to preview

James

I have recently upgraded from Word 97 to Word 2003 on my network at work. I
like to preview files when opening them. When I do this with files created
in Word 2003 everything is fine, but when I preview a file created in Word
97 it takes about 20 seconds for the preview to appear in the file open
dialogue.

I have tried disabling all traces of anti-virus, so I am pretty sure this is
not the problem.

Any ideas would be very gratefully received. Thanks.

Try saving the files in Word 2003.

Thanks for the suggestion, but there are about 300,000 of them spread over
thousands of directories.

So, just do it over the weekend.

You could write a macro to sift through the relevant part of the
directory tree, opening and saving the files one by one. Traversing the
directory tree is automated in VB scripting, so the hardest part is
already taken care of.
