files still in use after closing PowerPoint

With PowerPoint 2007, whenever I close a document, using the little
"X" at the top right corner, PowerPoint closes, but the document
remains "in use" until I log off my account. This is driving me crazy.
It is especially annoying when I open 2 PowerPoint documents, say to
copy something from one to another, then I close the one document.
PowerPoint closes out completely, doesn't prompt me to save (although
the latest changes are saved - which is good...I guess...), and then I
can only open the document I was editing in read-only mode. So to make
the changes I wanted, I either have to save the file under a new name,
or log off the computer.

Does anyone have any idea what is going on here? I cannot find the
file "in use" to close out. Nothing appears in the windows task
manager, and I cannot find anything on line.

On a perhaps related note, iTunes is doing something similar on
another computer (both running Windows XP SP3). When I click the
little "X", iTunes closes, but still is playing songs. An icon appears
in the lower right (taskbar), but I cannot open iTunes using that
icon, or via the start menu???
