files to save

I'm getting an error that the Data1.msi file isn't valid.
Microsoft says this is because office 2000 was loaded as
an OEM version and to fix it I need to uninstall and then
re-load office. That's not a problem what I need to know
is what files to back up so I don't loose all my custom
settings in word, excel, and outlook. I don't want to
loose any folders created or saved in outlook either. Do
you see what I'm getting at?

Please help,

Kevin

Hi Kevin,

How did they proposed you uninstall Office? If the msi file is missing
the uninstall will fail with the same error message.

The problem lies in the Windows Installer entries. All that needs to
be done is remove the entries that point to the missing msi and then
reinstall Office to add corrected Installer entries.

What you should do is obtain the following utility and use it to
remove only the reference to Office. Once that is complete then you'll
need to reinstall Office to point the Windows Installer to your
installation CD:

MS Installer Cleanup utility for Office 2000:

Note when you reinstall Office it will not be a full install - nor
should you lose any of your personal preferences and customizations.
