I recently had exactly this problem with a new PC (MS
Windows XP). The only option left over was to assume I
had corrupted one or more of my settings, and that
affected Word, Excel and Internet Explorer but ONLY in my
user account (has no Administrator privileges). The
Administrator account was OK. Recreating my user account
failed (using File and Settings transfer) as the
corruption transferred too. I had to do then a file
transfer, ie all my personal stuff and lost all my
settings. However I did not have yet too many
personalised settings. I think you have got a
problem .... but before doing anything else first try
under HELP in Word or Excel the Repair .... option (did
not work in my case). Good luck.
