Fill Effects Patterns

Many thanks to Bob Buckland for responding to my question about printing fill
effect patterns.
Sorry to say that his suggestion did not solve the problem as it does not
appear possible to alter the dpi of my printer and to confuse matters further
I have discovered that printing in fastdraft - 300dpi - produces a smaller
fill than normal or best - 600dpi.
I am also confused as to why, if I copy and paste into Paint Shop Pro and
print out the bitmap image, it is the correct size.

Hi Gwen,

The rendering engines for printing in a graphics app
are different than those in a Word processor. In the
graphics app you are basically working on a single resolution
in a Word processor you're doing layout, location, alignment,
font sizing, graphics sizing and quality, some of which can
be changed in the printer properties (more in lasers, that
have their own print processor than in some inkjets where the
computer does all of the 'work'.

You can create a fill effect pattern with a wider spread
in a graphics app and tile it in Word using it as a fill
effect texture, and that may sometimes keep things from
'smoothing'.

You may also want to try select the filled object in Word,
using Ctrl+X to cut it, then Edit=>Paste Special and repaste
it as a picture format to see if that helps hold the print
pattern closer to that of the original.
