Fill-in problem

DG

I have created a template in Word XP with numerous fill-in fields.

On creating a new document based on the template the Fill-in box does not
appear promptin for the fill-in text.

Anyone got any clues why and how to cure this?

Thanks.

How did you create the fill-in fields? What properties did you set on them?

I simply applied 'Insert... field... Fill-in' and followed prompts.

For instance, one of the fill-in fields is as follows:

{FILLIN "Please enter Subcontractors name and address, pressing ENTER
after each line, before clicking OK" \* MERGEFORMAT }

Nothing happens!

The Fill-in has worked previosly without any problem, but not any more.

As a test, select the fields and press F9 to manually update them. If
the Fill-ins prompt then the fields are fine. If not then you might
try creating one again. The syntax looks correct from what I can see
anyway.

How are you creating the new document? Are you using File/New or are
you double-clicking the template from an Exploring window such as the
Desktop?

If the latter then the default double-click action for a template is
to create a new document based on the template. However this may have
inadvertently been changed. Right-click the template and note the bold
action. If it reflects "Open" then to easily reset the file
association (you can manually edit the file type and set the default
if you like) is to go to Start/Run and run:

winword /r

Note the space before the forward slash.

If that isn't it then did you create a macro to update the fields? In
the past this was necessary but it is no longer required in current
versions of Word.
