I would like to create fields where you type in the instructions for the User, he or she clicks the field, the instructions get erased, and he or she can enter the appropriate information. (like the gray fields one would see on a form)

Thank you so much.

To my Knowledge That's not possible in a word document.

But could be done in Acrobat 8 or 9 for Mac (is pro version)

You do still need Word to create the original Document.

You'll have to type the form, put in the Blank or Boxes then save as a PDF.

Open as Pdf in Acrobat 8 or 9.

Then use the Forms Manager to fill in the forms names and so on.

If it's "fixed", don't "break it"!

Hi Lizzie,

You can use a MACROBUTTON field for this. MACROBUTTON fields are meant to trigger macros, but if you code one like:
'MACROBUTTON NoMacro These are the instructions'
using Insert|Field, the text will display as:
'These are the instructions'

When the user starts typing in the field, it will be deleted and replaced by whatever they type.

Make sure everyone know if this is to be done in Office2008 Macros Don't
work The Macro language VBA is missing from 2008. Now if you use 2004
this may work.

Hi Phillip -

The reply from macropod was specifically in response to a 2004 user as
indicated in her post. However, even if it weren't, the implementation of
MACROBUTTON fields he suggested has nothing to do with macros or VBA - as he
also noted. The solution will work as effectively in 2008.

Hi,

First, turn on Words form toolbar (View > toolbars > forms)

Next, click on the text field and then click into the document where you
want the text input field to go.

Then, right-click or control-click on the text field and choose Properties.

Fill in the Default Text and away you go!

I find Word's form capabilities to be superior to Adobe's.
