Fillin fields in headers

I have a letterhead template with FILLIN fields
throughout, including in the headers--one in the first
page header and two on the "regular" header (page 2 &
beyond). The FILLIN prompt runs as usual when I create a
new document using the template, but also continues to re-
prompt only the header fields each time I change the view,
i.e. when I open and close print preview, switch to
normal/print layout view, etc. The rest of the FILLIN
fields throughout the body of the document do not re-
prompt, only those in headers.

I can open the header and manually lock the field using
CTRL-F11, but the problem is when I have only a one page
letter, and don't even use the page 2 header, the FILLIN
still prompts to update the page 2 header fields, which I
can't manually lock (CTRL-F11) because they aren't
physically on the document. IS THERE SOME KIND OF SWITCH
I CAN USE TO LOCK THE FILLIN FIELDS? Or can I prevent the
headers from trying to refresh when I change views?

Header fields are designed to update on print (and on print preview)
generally. Consider using a custom dialog box (userform) to gather your
information and put it into your document. (See the MVP FAQ on Useforms for
more about this.) Otherwise, consider using the StyleRef field or Document
Properties to gather such info.

You may also want to look at: How to set up letterhead or some other
document where you want one header on the first page and a different header
on other pages. http://www.addbalance.com/word/headersfooters.htm This gives
step-by-step instructions. (It also has the following links)

If you are interested in creating templates that will work with the letter
wizard or use that wizard, you should look at the chapter on Advanced
Document Formatting in Using Office 2003 (or whatever your version is),
Special Edition, by Ed Bott and Woody Leonhard. It has detailed instructions
including instructions on getting the fields you want from your Outlook
Contacts for addressing a letter. (Chapter 19 of SE Using Office 2003) You
should be able to get this through your public library or at Amazon.com
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ISBN=0789729555/balancecheckbookA/

Finally, take a look at the letter templates that come with Word. While they
are no great shakes as letterhead, they do use styles and AutoText lists
very well. If you use the same style names that are used in those templates
in your own letterhead for the same parts of the document, you will have
better luck with using the built-in AutoText entries in Word.

Hope this helps,
