Filling columns in Excel

R

Richard

Hello all,

I am having to manipulate large data streams, thousands of cells, and
need to be able to fill a column without using the fill handle, as it
takes just too long.

Anyone have an idea?

Thanks,

Richard

One option -

Click the reference in the Name Box (left end of Formula Bar), type the
range of cells to be selected (i.e., A10:A5000), type the entry in A10, then
Cmd+D to Fill Down.

If this doesn't help, you might want to be a little more specific about what
you need to do.

Another option -

If you know what the final value will be, select the first cell and
choose Edit/Fill/Series... Click the Column radio button, choose a
Series Type (and Date unit, if applicable), verify or set the step value
and enter the stop value. For instance, to get a linear series from 1 to
5000:

1) Enter 1 in A10
2) Choose Edit/Fill/Series...
3) Click "Columns"
4) Enter 5000 for Stop Value
5) Click OK.
