filling of fields in InfoPath

Question: is it possible to fill a box in say form A, and also have that
value appear in a box in form B (two boxes that reference the same cell in
the underlying database).

This is possible.

If you are using a database then you could save it in one and then query it
from the other. You probably would want to use web services.

Another method is to use a windows script and pass the variable as the first
form opens the second form.
