Filter by user not working?

Fred Howard

This is actually a question about the search for this forum. I keep trying to search for only threads that contain posts from me, and

1. It requires that I put *something* in the box to search for (when I don't care), and

2. It never seems to find my posts that I know are there, even if I put my username (pianoman1948) in the filter box, even if I put it in the "text to search for" box. Yes, I have the "entire message" button checked.

Isn't there a way to just search by user name? Am I missing something?

Are you posting through the Microsoft community server
(http://www.microsoft.com/office/community/en-us/default.mspx) or one of the
many sites that republish the Microsoft news server content?

If Microsoft, I think you need to use your display name, not your passport
username. If its at another forum, try using google to find your posts.

Thanks very much for responding. I don't know what a "Microsoft community server" is, so I guess I'm not using one. I just went to this URL:

http://www.office-outlook.com/outlook-forum/

(I must have found it with Google) and made up a username and password. I don't have a passport.

It just seems like every other forum I've joined has a place on their search page where you can just enter the logon name.

ooh, update: I did Google my username and outlook and found a list of members, which I figured out I can get to with the "members" button on the forum screen. I entered my name to narrow it down to mine. Then there's a button to "view posts" by that person (me).

There's usually a way somehow if one looks long enough ....

Thanks again,
Ted

FWIW, you'll do better by accessing this server directly - either using the
web based interface at
http://www.microsoft.com/office/community/en-us/default.mspx or point your
newsreader (Outlook Express or Live Mail) to msnews.microsoft.com
