filter creates new records

when I right click on a form in a field I try to do a filter, however if I
attempt to filter on a field and there is no match it appears a new record is
created. For example I try to filter in a field for "Apples" and there were
no apples in the field.
Why is this? How do I fix this issue?

and what version are you using? 2003, 2007....

How do you come to the conclusion a new record is added or do you just see
the new record being presented. This might be because you are using a
recordsource where it is possible to add records...
