Unfortunately your description doesn't make it at all clear what you are
trying to do or what type of "filter" you're referring to. Neither do you
indicate what version of Excel you're using nor even whether it's on a Mac
or a PC. A description of what type of data you're dealing with or at least
how you have it laid out would also be helpful. Without more accurate
information it's impossible to answer your question.
If you're using one of the Windows versions of Excel (especially if it's
2007) you may do better to ask in one of the PC Excel groups - this one is
