Filtering just names beginning with "A"

Hi,
Using "Customize Current" view, I would like to view only
those names beginning with "A". In my reading of help, it
appears that you can use a wildcard character e.g., A*
would yield all names beginning with A. I cannot get this
to work. Please advise. Thanks in advance.
