Final With Markup

We have Word 2003. When we open a document, it automatically opens in the
"Final With Markup" view. When we send documents to clients, we'd like to
have the document not open in markup and not show the comments. Any
suggestions.

Hi Brady

If a document contains tracked changes or comments, then any user can choose
to view those changes or comments, or choose to hide them. There is no way
to send a Word document containing tracked changes or comments without the
recipient seeing them. Nor can you determine how the document will open.
That depends on the user's version of Word, and the settings on the user's
machine.

You might find it better to save your Word document as a PDF file, and send
that to clients. Or, accept all the tracked changes and delete comments
before sending the documents out.

Hope this helps.

We had the same problem and seem to have fixed it by doing the following:

In Word go to > Tools > Options > Security

Make sure 'Make hidden markup visible when opening or saving' box is not
checked.

In the same tab, you might consider checking the box that says 'Warn before
printing, saving or sending a file that contains track changes or comments',
if this is a concern.

When working with a document while using track changes, on your final save
make sure you pull down the menu to the upper left and click 'Final' not
'Final Showing Markup'.

Selecting Final before you save will not remove the markup. A recipient will
still be able to see it )and in fact may see it automatically if he/she has
*not* disabled "Make hidden markup visible when opening or saving") unless
you accept all the changes and remove all the comments before sending the
document.
