In Word I would like to create a shortcut key for repeating the last
search without causing the find dialog box to appear. Any
suggestions?

It's already there. Use Ctrl+PgDn to go to the next find, and Ctrl+PgUp to go to
the previous one.

When you do a Find, that automatically changes the "browse target" to the Find
What text. Look at the bottom of the vertical scroll bar -- the two double
arrows are the Browse Previous and Browse Next buttons, and the circle between
them is the Select Browse Object button, which lets you change the target to any
of a dozen kinds of things. The Ctrl+PgUp and Ctrl+PgDn keys are the shortcuts
for the browse buttons -- they'll go to whatever is the current browse target.
