Version of Word 2003:

I would like to know if someone can help me write a macro to do the following:

1) Find all instances of italicized text in a document
2) Replace it with Word's Emphasis Character formatting Style.

Any assistance would be much appreciated.

You can do this with find an replace.

Find: leave empty but place the cursor in the find box and press ctrl+i

Replace with: leave empty but place the cursor in the replace with box and
click More > Format > Style, and choose the style you want to apply

If you do this often, you can record a macro easily adn assign it to a
toolbar or keyboard shortcut.

Thank you for the reply, but unfortunately it does me no good because my
recorder button goes blank (i.e,. it fades) the second I call up the find &
replace dialog box. What I need is a macro that will perform these two steps
mentioned in my original post. I know the the command for calling up the find
& replace function but I do not know the rest (i.e., the formatting and the
replace formatting with the character style.).

Any assistance, as always, will be much appreciated.

Did you try following the steps in my previous message? If you did, then
you should know the rest (i.e., the formatting and the replace formatting
with the character style).

The button may fade, but the recorder is still running. After you have
started the recorder, named your macro, and opened the find and replace
dialog, follow the steps in my earlier message.

Dear PamC:

Thank you for trying to help solve this problem; unfortunately, the faded
out record macro button on my version of Word (word 2003) brings it about
that nothing is recorded. I tried running the macro and nothing happens. I
either need to remedy the record button fading out or find some code to fix
this. This puzzles me. I recorded a macro several months ago incorporating
the find and replace function and it worked. For some reason, if it fades out
it no longer works.

Thank you again for your help.
