Find and replace question - 2004

Carey

Word 2004. When I selected the paragraph marker, some of the words ate
broken with this symbol: ¬

This happens, I suspect, because in previous versions these words were
caught in line breaks.

My problem is that when I "find and replace," none are found or
replaced. Is there something I can do about this?????

Are you sure that's what it looks like? Or is it more like ? ?

It isn't a literal character so if that's what you're typing/pasting into
the Find field it would explain the lack of success. In the F/R dialog click
the little button in the lower left corner [if necessary] to expand the
dialog. Click the Special button & select Manual Line Break which will
insert the code characters ^l into the field. See if you don't have better
luck. If not...

You've posted to the Word for Windows version but 2004 is a Mac version :)
so for more help it would be best to go to:

Microsoft.public.mac.office.word

As you can see, I posted to "microsoft.public.mac.word." So I don't get
why you say I posted to a Windows group.

I pasted the symbol just as it appears on the pages. There are more
than 1,400 of these things in my document. I'd hate to have to do them,
all one by one.

As I said, I'm not trying to create line breaks. I'm trying to get rid
of separations of words that were apparently hyphenated in earlier
versions at the end of lines. Maybe that's what you mean as well, but I
don't get the "^l" insertion you suggest.

Word 2004. When I selected the paragraph marker, some of the words ate
broken with this symbol: ¡þ

This happens, I suspect, because in previous versions these words were
caught in line breaks.

My problem is that when I "find and replace," none are found or
replaced. Is there something I can do about this?????

It's called an "optional hyphen" in the Special menu of the Find/Replace
window. Worked! Thanks for your suggestion. I figured it out from my
HTML guide.
