Find box

Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) Processor: Intel I run excel 2003 on a windows pc which allows me to have the find and replace box open transparently. ie. the box floats and I can search with it , work in the spreadsheet, search again and so on.

With Excel 2008 on a mac, opening the find box allows me to search for a word but in order to amend the spreadsheet I have to shut the find box, edit the cell, open the box again, find the next word, close the box etc.
I cant find any settings that will allow me to have the functionality I need that is in 2003.

Also, if I have rows hidden when I do a find in 2003, it opens all the rows and leaves them open. this doesnt happen in 2003.

Please tell me I'm being thick and the product can do as I need it to do!

Thanks

David

Once you do the first Find go ahead & close the box, then use Command+G to
go to the next instance. You can bring up the Find dialog when you next need
it by using Command+F.

As for the hidden rows, I don't find that to be the case. In fact, the rows
do not display or unhide at all. Instead the reference of the found cell
simply displays in the Name Box.

Is Office fully updated (12.2.3)?

Thanks Bob,
I guess I'm going to have to get used to Mac keyboard commands.
cmd G & cmd F work and the hidden lines are no longer revealing. Does seem like a retrograde step compared with 2003 though.
Searching for a name which I know is on a hidden line doesnt show the reference of the cell in the find box.
I updated from 12.2.1 to .3 but it makes no difference.

You misread my statement ‹ the cell reference of the found cell does not
display in the *Find* box, it displays in the *Name Box*, which is located
at the left end of the Formula Bar.
