Find Cntrl F & Find & Replace (Cntrl H) Does not find anything more than 1 time

All of a sudden my 'CNTL H' Find and replace does not find
all the instances including words like 'the'. I've
installed all service packs and updates - going crazy it
is my most used feature for proposals.

It will find one instance and then say there are no others
everytime you re run it. you can even highlight the text
in the document, cntrl c it and past it into the find
section click next and it says there are no instances....

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!
