Find doesn't work with Contacts in a Public Folder

I have a client that has their contacts in a shared public folder. For some
reason, some of the users, when they use the find tool, get a return of "no
contact found". what might be causing this when other users seem to be able
to use the find tool successfully on the shared public folder? thanks.
