Find object references.. How do I find references to missing objec

R

My server reports file not found and on some page(s) referring to .ico file..

How can I scan my website to find pages that reference this object.

I tried the various reports and could not find what I was looking for..

Using FP2003, win2000 pro.. Tried searching for text string on the
directory with explorer, no luck.

Thanks in Advance

if it's an .ico, it's usually a favicon. The easiest thing to do is to do a
search on the HTML for the pages within your site with the name of the .ico
file reported by your server's logs.

You are correct, it is favicon! I don't know what that is..

but my question is " how to..'search on the HTML for the pages within your
site with the name of the .ico ' "

I cannot conceivably open all the pages and scan each one..

I also have some other reported missing links so being able to scan my site
for references would be useful..

I used explorer, searched the entire web directory for files containing
'favicon.ico' and got no results ??

With the web open in FP:

Control-F > select "Find in HTML" > select "All pages"

It won't be on a page, it should be in the root directory of your web.

In addition to Mark's comments, modern browsers will try to get
favicon.ico from the web's root folder if it is not referenced in the
page - if referenced the browser will use the link in the page.

For missing/broken links use the broken hyperlinks report in FrontPage.
This will scan every page in your web and produce a report showing every
broken link, plus every link to a site outside your web - FrontPage can
verify these, but any reported as broken should be checked manually.

With the website open in FrontPage, View->Reports->Problems->Hyperlinks

Any broken links/missing pages not on this report could simply be typos
from whoever is looking for the page.
