Find occurrence and edit without closing find

I need to lookup numbers and then put information in the cell next to the
number. I used to be able to keep the find window open and edit the
spreadsheet. It's a pain to have to cmd-F, close, edit and repeat. Is there
a way to make it so I can edit the spreadsheet while find is open?

Instead of keeping the find window open, type CMD-g to perform a
FindNext.

That's useful to know thanks. But what if I need to lookup different
numbers? I'm currently working on a project where I have to lookup hundreds
of numbers and mark them as being found... (Talk about mind numbing task)
Thanks again for you help.

I'd choose a different approach. See

http://cpearson.com/excel/duplicat.htm

for suggestions on marking duplicates (i.e. put the numbers you're
looking up in one list and compare it to your existing list).
